Typing Test in Punjab: Guidelines and Instructions

The typing test for candidates in Punjab involves typing a Punjabi passage using Unicode-compliant Raavi Font with the INSCRIPT keyboard. Passages include Gurmukhi alphabets, numbers (both Gurmukhi and English), and punctuation marks. Candidates must type the passage exactly as shown.

Typing Test Duration and Requirements

• Each test (Punjabi and English) lasts 10 minutes.
• A 5-minute break is provided between the two tests.
• Minimum gross speed: 30 WPM in both languages with at least 92% accuracy (maximum 8% mistakes allowed).

Key Instructions for Typing

• Pay close attention to spaces and punctuation. Missing or extra spaces are counted as errors.
• Omission or addition of lagamatras, half-characters, or wrong words in Punjabi typing make a word invalid.
• Irrelevant keys will remain disabled during the test.

Typing Speed Instructions

A “word” is defined as five characters, including spaces and punctuation marks. Each passage is divided into 10 chunks (3 lines each) with 32–34 words per chunk.

Navigation: After typing 80% of a chunk, press Enter or Down Arrow to move forward. Keys like Up Arrow, PgUp, and PgDn are also available for navigation.

• Punjabi vowels, consonants, matras, bindi, tippi, and half characters each count as one character.

  • Addition of extra or wrong words.
• Half Mistakes:
  • Spacing errors (missing or extra spaces).

Typing Speed and Accuracy Formula

Gross Characters: Total characters typed.
Error Characters: Mistakes × 5.
Net Characters: Gross – Error.

Gross Speed (WPM): Gross Characters ÷ (5 × Duration in minutes).
Accuracy (%): (Net Characters × 100) ÷ Gross Characters.
